The bank for business.
In the mid-1990s and early 2000s, new bank (“de novo”) formations were on the rise nationwide. During this period, a group of business professionals from Bay City and Saginaw saw an opportunity to establish a de novo bank in the region. The group believed having a locally owned bank focused on businesses would strengthen the business community, an essential part of the region’s success. Having bankers that understood the region, the business climate, the industries, the owners and their company’s history would lead to better decisions for the region. It was also important that lending policies did not exclude particular industries. Many of these values were changing in the banking industry due to the consolidation of community banks into larger regional and national banks.
In 2004, that small group of local business professionals brought this vision to life with the launch of 1st State Bank, a bank for business. The Bank brought together some of the region’s most experienced business bankers, providing a full range of business and personal banking services with a commitment to reinvesting deposits and profits back into the region.
1st State Bank has experienced steady growth since opening its doors in 2004. As of June 30, 2024, total assets approximate $474 million. Serving the Michigan counties of Saginaw, Bay, and Midland, the Bank remains focused in its mission to be the bank for business for the Great Lakes Bay Region.
